Lionsgate Setting Up Production Base in Atlanta

Lionsgate, known for its popular The Hunger Games movies, has ambitious plans to establish a thriving production hub in Atlanta. Keen to increase the output of their film and TV offerings, the media giant will be the main resident in a sparkling $200 million film studio complex situated in Atlanta.

Spanning a massive area of 40 acres, the studio complex is set to swing its doors open later in the year, as per Lionsgate’s announcement on April 4. This venture will mark another collaboration between Lionsgate and Great Point Studios, spearheaded by Robert Halmi. Notably, it was the same Douglas County location where the fans’ favorite The Hunger Games series was filmed.

An Impressive Addition to Lionsgate’s Portfolio

Lionsgate Studios Atlanta will be a laudable addition to our existing production spaces close to vital urban zones,” commented Gary Goodman, Lionsgate executive vp television production. He added that this development opens doors for scaling up the company’s film and television production operations, impacting the regional economy positively by creating hundreds of local jobs.

The upcoming Atlanta facility boasts half a million square feet of production area, encompassing 12 soundstages, along with office and ancillary space. The studio complex would be under the management and ownership of Great Point, a media-oriented investment fund led by Halmi, who also dons the hat of Hallmark Entertainment’s president and CEO, and Fehmi Zeko.

A History of Successful Collaborations

Lionsgate and Great Point have a history of joining forces, having previously worked together to solidify the studio complex in Yonkers, New York, which is a short 20-minute drive from Manhattan. Additionally, they are adding another feather to their caps by opening another facility in Newark, New Jersey. The planned Atlanta production space is the result of a shared venture between Great Point Studios and a business colleague, affiliated with the private investment firm Lindsay Goldberg.

A Step Towards Enhancing Content Production

Lionsgate is continually producing engaging content for its film and TV studio divisions, while also focusing on its premium streaming platform, Starz. The construction of this new production base in Atlanta will facilitate maintaining this constant flow of high-quality content for its audiences.
